Sanitary mixing tanks designed for blending, emulsifying, heating, cooling, and batch processing of liquid and semi-solid cosmetic products.

Cosmetic Processing Kettles

Jacketed kettles engineered for viscous, temperature-sensitive formulations such as creams, lotions, gels, balms, and emulsions.

Storage & Holding Tanks

Sanitary storage tanks designed for holding raw materials, in-process blends, and finished cosmetic products while maintaining product integrity.

Transfer & Intermediate Tanks

Fully drainable transfer tanks designed for the safe, sanitary movement of cosmetic products between processing steps.

PERSONAL CARE & COSMETIC APPLICATIONS

EIC Tanks supplies sanitary processing equipment designed to support a wide range of personal care and cosmetic formulations, including:

 • Creams, lotions, and moisturizers

 • Ointments and balms

 • Gels and serums

 • Emulsions and suspensions

 • Shampoos, conditioners, and liquid soaps

 • Sunscreens and SPF formulations

 • Cleansers and surfactant-based products

 • Fragranced and specialty cosmetic products

Each application is reviewed during engineering to ensure the appropriate surface finish, agitation method, heating and cooling capability, shear profile, drainability, and cleanability, aligned with cosmetic manufacturing best practices.

AGITATOR CONFIGURATIONS

Engineered for Every Size and Every Application

EIC Tanks designs custom agitation systems to support the full range of cosmetic viscosities — from low-viscosity liquids to ultra-high-viscosity creams, gels, and ointments.

Advanced engineering tools including 3D solid modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are used to design agitation systems that deliver optimal mixing performance, heat transfer efficiency, and long-term reliability.

MULTI-AGITATOR SYSTEMS

For demanding cosmetic formulations, EIC Tanks offers multi-agitator configurations engineered for precision, flexibility, and sanitation.

Co-Axial Counter-Rotating Systems

 • Outer scrape-surface agitator with inner turbine or propeller

 • Designed for viscosities up to 2,000,000+ cP

 • Independent speed control via stacked or integrated gearmotors

 • Optional bottom-entering high-shear mixers for emulsification

Dual & Triple Entering Mixer Systems

 • Outer scrape-surface agitators paired with offset turbine, propeller, or high-shear mixers

 • Optional stationary or custom baffles

 • Independent speed control of each agitator

AGITATION DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Every agitation system is engineered with a focus on performance, sanitation, and versatility.

Mixing Performance

 • Minimized blend times

 • Maximized heat transfer

 • Reduced product hold-up and waste

Sanitary Design

 • High-polish internal finishes, with options below 15 Ra

 • In-house electropolishing available

 • Custom sanitary impeller designs

 • Sanitary scraper blades requiring no pins, clips, or O-rings

 • Frame designs minimizing difficult-to-clean geometries

Process Versatility

 • Individual speed control of each agitator

 • Designed for the lowest practical mixing volume

 • Scalable from R&D to full production

These systems are commonly used for creams, lotions, conditioners, shampoos, gels, toothpastes, medical ointments, and antiperspirants.

WHAT IS A COSMETIC PROCESSING KETTLE?

In personal care and cosmetic manufacturing, a kettle is a vessel designed to process liquid and semi-solid formulations, typically featuring a round or hemispherical bottom and controlled heating and cooling.

Cosmetic kettles are widely used for melting, emulsification, blending, holding, and temperature-controlled processing, ranging from pilot-scale vessels to large production kettles holding hundreds of gallons.

Ingredient Addition & Loading Methods

Cosmetic kettles may be top-loaded through hinged lids or handholes, or equipped with sanitary piping connections for direct ingredient addition. Controlled injection helps minimize foaming, air entrainment, and oxidation, improving batch quality and product appearance.

MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION

Cosmetic processing vessels are fabricated from 304 or 316L stainless steel, selected for compatibility with cosmetic ingredients, fragrances, surfactants, and cleaning agents. Stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance, cleanability, and long service life.

Heating & Cooling Capabilities

Cosmetic vessels are commonly equipped with jacketed heating and cooling systems, supporting circulation of:

 • Steam

 • Hot water

 • Chilled water

 • Glycol

Temperature control systems regulate jacket flow to support precise processing during melting, emulsification, cooling, and stabilization. PLC-based controls can manage multi-stage heating and cooling profiles. Facilities without steam can be supported with electric heating solutions.

OPEN, SEALED & VACUUM-CAPABLE VESSELS

Cosmetic kettles may be designed as open-top, covered, or fully sealed vessels. Sealed designs may be configured for vacuum operation, commonly used to:

 • Reduce air entrainment

 • Improve emulsion quality

 • Minimize oxidation

 • Enhance product appearance and texture

Vacuum-capable designs are especially beneficial for high-viscosity cosmetic products.

DISCHARGE & PRODUCT TRANSFER OPTIONS

Cosmetic vessels may be designed with flush bottom discharge valves or tilt-dump configurations, depending on product characteristics.

 • Flush valves eliminate dead legs and improve cleanability

 • Tilt kettles allow efficient emptying of viscous or non-flowing products

Each discharge method is engineered to protect sanitation and product quality.

Sanitary Design, Controls & Documentation

All EIC Tanks cosmetic equipment is engineered using sanitary design principles to support cleanability, product integrity, and consistent batch quality. Designs support CIP procedures and routine sanitation.

EIC Tanks can supply custom control panels and touchscreen HMI systems to monitor temperature, mixer speed, batch timing, vacuum level, and other critical parameters. Systems may include recipe management, data logging, and plant integration.

Documentation packages may include:

 • Material certifications

 • Weld records

 • Surface finish documentation

 • Pressure or leak testing records (where applicable)

 • As-built drawings
